>Can we apply feng shui to gardens (both vegetable and flower)? Would this
be the Shapes and Form? It has been mentioned in the forum that too many
plants and/or trees create an excessively yin environment. What is meant by
too many? If I have my vegetables in orderly rows, does this create yang or
yin energy?

Yes, there are four important theories which can be applied:-

1. The Four Symbolic Animals Theory concept;

This would depend on the gradient of your land and if there are any
`tall buildings' around. If there are tall buidlings around that shade that
side of the house or land, then you have to find out what type of plants
that you can plant there.

Normally, the advice is to plant plants at the East (Rising sun) or the
Dragon side and because of the `heat' in the West (afternoon sun), this is
less ideal especially in Equatorial countries. Most plants may die due to
the intense heat.

2. The Yin and Yang Concept

Another point is that under the Four Symbolic Animals Concept for example,
the West is said to be Yin and for a landed property or even highrise, it is
best not to plant too many plants or trees at this location which may create
too yin an environment which is conducive to `spirits'.

For the garden, it should have a balance of Yang e.g. stones, bricks etc..
and Yin e.g. plants and water position.

3. You can Ba Gua template or plan an " S " shaped garden. What this means
is that garden should be landscaped and avoid straight paths where
necessary. Straight paths creates Sha Qi.

4. A lovely garden is conducive to birds. Birds in the garden is very
auspicious.

>Does the direction of my front door affect my garden plans? (It is
west-facing)

Please read above. Your garden should be proportionate to the amount of land
and flowers that are `low' and do not grow high are acceptable. It must not
grow uncontrolled into e.g. a jungle environment.

>And finally, do red flowers attract chi?

In general flowers of any colours are attractive and pleasing. If they
smell, nice, it is even better.

As `cut-flowers' do not last long, it is acceptable to be placed in the
home. It does not `attract' qi but do give one a sense of `calm' etc...

Warmest Regards,
Cecil
