Dear Jo,

Frankly, currently I do not see any `harm' in installing a wall uplight next
to the painting based on `intuitive' Feng Shui. However, normally again this
should not be a problem other than if you have done a Flying Star chart and
found that the sector is unfavourable or where `fire element' can do damage
to that sector. Other than this consideration, it is acceptable to have the
uplight.

In my opinion, it would not be necessary to turn on the light during the day
as in my opinion, there is already light and if I am not mistaken, natural
light is still the best.

As for turning on the light at night, you can try it if you want... but do
monitor your actions. I personally feel that such an action e.g. turning on
the lights has more to do with Chinese supersituous belief. For example,
during eve Chinese New Year, I would turn on the lights in my home to
"usher" in the New Year and this is suppose to bring good luck.

Other than what I mentioned above, turning on the light is suppose to
enhance the " Fire Element ". Some Feng Shui practioners go to the extend
of identifying the type of light and its usefulness or effectiveness. For
example, some feel that halogen lamp has more intensity than say a
flourescent light.

>My question is can I put this light next to the carp painting
>(symbolising water) or would this cause me problems. For example, in a
>kitchen if you put the cooker next to the sink this is inauspicious. I

>= wood element. Would this be alright?

Yes, I am glad that you are able to understand and apply the Five Elements
and at the same time understand the consequences of doing so.

>My main door faces West and I am Strongest Metal East Group 1 Earth Boar.

As your main door faces West and you are a strong Metal person, there is
really no harm for you to use the uplight for two reasons:-

1. West is overall a Yin location.
2. Fire destroys metal as you are a strong Metal person. (Water in the
painting has no effect on your personal element Metal).

Overall, you can do with Fire but not necessary turning on lighting `24'
hours a day. Other Fire elements even a simple pyramid crystal etc... are
just as effective.

Warmest Regards,
Cecil
